Kano: Reps member proposes Fed Medical Centre at Fagge

A bill to establish the Federal Medical Centre in Fagge Local Government has passed second reading at House of Representatives.

The member representing Fagge federal constituency at the House of Representatives, Muhammad Bello Shehu, made this known at a media parley with members of Kano Correspondents’Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists in Kano on Thursday.

He said the House Committee on Health was assessing the bill and once it was passed in to law, the facility would be established at the constituency.

According to the lawmaker, popularly known as MB Shehu, the idea behind sponsoring the bill was to provide easy access to secondary healthcare facilities for his constituents.

“One of the bills I have passed is the bill for establishment of Federal Medical Centre in Fagge, my constituency. The bill has currently passed second reading.

“Once it is passed, the facility would be established and would ease access to secondary healthcare facilities for my constituents.

“Sometimes they find it difficult to go to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH), so if this project is actualised, it would ease their suffering.

“This is part of my commitments to provision of healthcare services to my constituents,” he said.

The lawmaker also disclosed that the reconstruction of Sabo Garba Primary Healthcare Centre in the constituency had already been captured in the 2024 appropriation Bill.

According to the legislature, the hospital is in a bad condition that needs urgent attention of the authorities concerned, saying that the project would help the members of the community and beyond.

He said the project would involve demolition and reconstruction of the facility, thereby making it a two-storey building that would accommodate more bed spaces.
