IGP cautions personnel on corruption

Outgoing Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed D. Abubakar, yesterday cautioned own personnel against indulging in any act that is detrimental to the corporate image of the Police force.
The police boss stated this at the graduation ceremony of the Tactical Leadership and Command Course IV held at Police Staff College Jos.
Abubakar, represented by the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Jonathan Jonson, Information and Communications Technology, Force headquarters, Abuja, stressed that “corruption would not be tolerated at all.”
He said his administration would continue to maintain zero tolerance for corruption and abhor indiscipline in the police force.
Abubakar said the police force was being repositioned to earn the confidence of the public and vowed to punish any staff that would undermine the efforts.
He reiterated that the mandate of the police which was protection of fundamental human rights of the citizens was made possible through partnership with relevant security agencies and a highly motivated workforce.
The police chief noted that with the spate of security challenges currently bedeviling the nation, the update of tactical and managerial skills had become imperative to enable them perform their duties efficiently.
He congratulated the 90 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) for performing excellently in the various programmes of the training.
Speaking at the event, Commandant of the College, AIG Mark Idakwo, said the course was designed for the rank for CSPs with intensive academic, tactical and practical programmes.
He said the IGP was keeping with the modern trends of policing as he made the development of its manpower a cardinal point of his administration.
The commandant added that the objective of the training was to equip the participants with in-depth knowledge of modern techniques and skills on leadership, weapon handling, explosive devices, intelligence gathering and distributing.
He explained that the training was also to groom the officers for various leadership positions and to also update the participants of the various laws of the country, especially in areas that affects the rights of the citizen.
