How North-east lawmaker aids, sponsors bandits, kidnappers – Investigation

As the federal government and security agents battle to curb the growing trend of banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes, indications have emerged how a highly placed member of the National Assembly has been aiding and sponsoring bandits and kidnappers.

Blueprint Weekend source has it that the first-time lawmaker, who enjoys the backing of some prominent Nigerians from the region, has been aiding and sponsoring top ranking members of bandit gangs.

According to the source, who is conversant with happenings within the National Assembly, the lawmaker had schemed his way into a very sensitive committee in the Senate and has access to intelligence information which he passes to his acolytes.

“We keep asking why banditry persists but recent events have proved that there are enemies within the system trying to undermine the administration of President Bola Tinubu for their selfish interests.

“Imagine a member of the National Assembly sponsoring bandits’ kingpins, who he invites to Abuja and hosts for days while they strategies on how to distabilise this administration.

“I don’t even know how the same man, a protégé of a prominent sheik who has been banned from travelling to some countries because of his ties to terrorists’ groups, became a senator in the first place. Now he is taking advantage of his privileged position and exposing security information to the same people it’s targeted at stopping.”

Speaking further, the source said: “I can confirm that he intervened and got the authorities to release into his custody one of the suspects arrested in connection with a recent major kidnapping incident in North. “This suspect was supposed to assist in exposing the mules and the enemies within, but he interfered to scuttle the investigation.”

The legislative aide expressed hope that the leadership of the National Assembly would catch up on the lawmaker’s antics and relieve of the headship of the sensitive committee before he further undermines efforts of the security forces and the federal government in curbing the rising criminal enterprise.
