FIFA, Super Eagles mourn Nigerians who died watching AFCON match 

Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) has commiserated Nigerians over the death of fans after seeing the Nigeria and South Africa AFCON semi-finals game.

At least, five people have been reported dead while watching the encounter.

They include a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress, (APC), Dr. Cairo Ojougboh; a corps member serving in Adamawa State, simply identified as Samuel; Deputy Bursar, Kwara State University, Malete, Ayuba Abdullahi; Mikail Osundiji of Olomoore area of Abeokuta, Ogun State.

It was also gathered that one Anambra-born businessman, Osondu Nwoye, who was based in Cote d’Ivoire, reportedly collapsed inside the stadium and later died in a hospital.

World football governing body in a tweet sympathising with Nigerians said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of those who have tragically passed away as well as the entire football community in Nigeria. Rest in peace.”

Similarly, players and officials of the Super Eagles held a minute of silence in honour of some fans who died during their Africa Cup of Nations semi-final match over South Africa.
