El-Rufai’s wife Aisha inducted Hepatitis ambassador

 

The World Hepatitis Eradication Initiative (WHEI), Wednesday inducted wife of Kaduna state governor, Hajiya Aisha el- Rufai, as Hepatitis zero ambassador.

The ceremony held in Abuja attracted the presence of Governor Nasir el- Rufai who made a brief appearance.

Hawa Abbas, Northeast commissioner, Hepatitis Zero Nigerian Commission, who read her citation, said she has vast experience in both public and private sectors which has positioned her in the service of humanity.

She stated further that: “This is evident in her current position as chairperson that championed the cause of children and women in Kaduna state, especially children with malnutrition. She spearheaded the establishment of the Kaduna Emergency Nutrition Action Plan (KADENAP) programme for this cause.”

President of the commission, Dr. Mike Omotosho, spelt out the responsibilities of Hajiya el-Rufai as an ambassador to include: Being  the face of Hepatitis Zero Initiative, represent the Hepatitis Zero Commission when the need arises, suggest organisations that have capacity to partner in the eradication drive of Hepatitis, nominate other notable individuals who are qualified to become World Hepatitis Commission Ambassadors, execute Hepatitis zero projects in personal capacity, be a renowned voice for Hepatitis zero advocacy, raise and lead a cluster of youth to become Hepatitis zero volunteers.

Her letter of appointment was signed by the world president of the commission. The letter which Dr. Omotosho presented to her read in part: “This is an initiative to honour those who have made positive impact in their countries and are charged with increasing the awareness and proffering advisory solution to the challenges of deadly disease which afflicts about 20.23 million Nigerians. Other prominent Nigerians so honoured include Rtd. General Yakubu Gowon (GCFR) and Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ojaja11.  Congratulations.”

Hajiya el-Rufai said it was gratifying that she was considered for the honour by the commission.  She described it as a huge responsibility and promised to ensure massive testing for Hepatitis.  She also promised to improve on the sensitisation of Nigerians on the danger posed by Hepatitis.
