Edo guber primary: Shaibu, Ojezua, others drag Ighodalo, PDP, INEC to court 

Days after the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primaries in Edo state, deputy governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu, Barr Anselm Ojezua, and two others have approached a Federal High Court, Abuja to stop the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the national secretariat of the party from recognising Dr. Asue Ighodalo as the party’s candidate.

This medium recalled that the party’s two parallel primaries held in the state produced different candidates after the exercise. 

While Anslem Ojezua and others are plaintiffs in the case with file No.: THC/ABJCS/304Q, Asue Ighodalo, People’s Democratic Party, and Independent National Electoral Commission, are the defendants.

The originating summons was brought pursuant to Sections 84(13)B(1) and (ii) of the Electoral Act 2022(as amended), Independent National Electoral Commission Regulations and Guidelines for the conduct of political parties primaries, Article 50(3) of the Constitution of the People’s Democratic Party.

Meanwhile, no date has been fixed for hearing on the matter.
