Edo guber: Akpata, Okpebholo pick LP, APC tickets 

Senator Monday Okpebholo has been declared winner of the Edo state All Progressives Congress (APC) primary, and would fly the party’s flag at the September 21, 2024 governorship election.

This was just as a former President of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Barr Olumide Akpata, emerged candidate of the Labour Party (LP) primary election held on Friday.

Akpata polled 316 votes to defeat his closest opponent, Barr. Kenneth Imansuangbon, who scored 7 votes.

Chairman of Edo APC primary and  governor of Cross River state, Senator Bassey Out, declared the result after collation of votes from the 18 local government areas by returning officers for the election.

Otu said Okpebholo polled 12,433 votes to defeat his closest rival, Hon. Dennis Idahosa, who scored 6,541 votes.

Continuing on the LP primary, chief returning officer for the election and deputy governor of Abia state, Engr. Emechulu Ikechukwu, noted that the party represents truth, hard work and transparency. 

Ikecbukwu, who thanked the aspirants for showing the spirit of sportsmanship, urged the candidate, Olumide Akpata to carry other aspirants along. 

In his acceptance speech, Akpata paid tribute to the late governor of Ondo state, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu. 

He added that the trajectory of Akeredolu whom he described as his mentor and predecessor as national chairman of NBA had been followed.
