Edo CJ reshuffles panel to probe Shaibu 

The Edo state Chief Judge, Justice Daniel Okungbowa, has reshuffled the membership of a seven-man panel he constituted to investigate allegations contained in the impeachment notice against, Hon. Philip Shaibu, the deputy governor of the state.

This was contained in a statement marked: “our Ref: CR/4837/V01. 11/13” and  issued by the Chief Registrar of the court, B.O Osawaru.

The statement showed that two names that appeared on the list as panel members have been withdrawn and replaced with new names.

The statement also indicated that the panel is headed by retired Justice, S. A Omonua.

Members of the rejigged panel are: Professor Theresa Akpoghome, Mr. Oghogho Ayodele Oviasu, Surv. Dr. Andrew Oliha, Mr. Idris Abdulkareen, President Aigbokhian Esq., and Mariam Erakhoba Ilavbare Esq.

On March 6, 2024, 19 out of 24 lawmakers signed a petition for the removal of Shaibu from office over alleged perjury and leaking of government secrets.

Also at plenary on March 19, the assembly passed a

resolution directing the CJ to inaugurate  panel to investigate the allegations against the embattled deputy governor.

The resolution followed a motion moved by the House majority leader, Hon. Charity Aiguobarueghian.
