Edo assembly: LP not in alliance with PDP – Official

The leadership of Labour Party (LP) in Edo state has dismissed speculation that the party was in alliance with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to win the March 11, 2023 House of Assembly election in the state for governor Godwin Obaseki.

The chairman of LP in the state, Comrade Kelly Ogbaloi, who disclosed this to journalists in Benin City said “there is nothing like that going on”, adding that the party would mobilise great supports for all its candidates in order for them to secure victory in the polls.

According to him, “information reaching the hierarchy of  Labour Party is that, the PDP had been engaged in last minute maneuvering, running nocturnal meetings, and seeking ways to meet Labour Party House of Assembly candidates.

“This can be understood from the damming failure. They experienced in the polls on February 25. PDP could be running the bends, but certainly not with Labour Party, and its House of Assembly candidates.

“We unequivocally declare that, we are going into the election with all our hearts, and therefore, not holding consultations or judicial disposition with any political party, be it PDP or APC. We further clear that those PDP allegedly invited to a meeting are no members of the Labour Party”.

The party chairman however thanked Edo people “especially Edo South and Central, respectively. We share in the troubles Edo North faced in the hands of PDP and APC who introduced dangerous and alien behaviours into the contest”.
