Edo 2020: Imo athlete slump, die in training

Imo athletes preparing for the forth coming National Sports Festival in Edo State were jolted when news of the death of a budding talent and festival medal hopeful, Barthlomew Nwachukwu was revealed to them.

Blueprint sport gathered that Bathlomew, a wrestler in the Sports Commissions, was having his morning session training when he slumped and was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre(FMC) Owerri where he was later confirmed dead.

While he was alive he had won many local wrestling contests and staff and athletes of Imo Sports Commission, friends and well wishers were never in doubt as regards his ability to perform in Edo State during the games.

His death has re-ignited the call for proper medical checks for people, especially athletes preparing for competitions to avoid slumping during competitions.
An Owerri based medical practitioner, Dr Steve Anyanwu said this practice is capable of saving lives and stress among people.
