Driver bags 1 month for causing obstruction

An Abuja Senior Magistrates’ Court sitting in Life Camp, yesterday sentenced a driver, Nnabuike Evikague, 25, to one month imprisonment for causing obstruction on the highway.
The Senior Magistrate, Mr Zubairu Mohammed, sentenced the accused, of Karmo village in Abuja, after he had pleaded guilty to one count-charge of causing road obstruction.
Mohammed, however, gave the convict an option of N5, 000 fine.
The Senior Magistrate also warned the convict to desist from such act and be of good behaviour.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Cpl. Simon Emmanuel, told the court that a team of police detectives, while on patrol, arrested the convict and lodged the complaint at Life Camp Police Station on June 12.
Emmanuel said at about 11:00 a.m., the convict parked a Volkswagen car with registration number KPP 831 XA wrongly on Life Camp Junction, thereby obstructing other road users.
He said during police investigation, the convict could not give satisfactory account of himself and his action. He said the offence contravened Section 39 of the Road Traffic Act. (NAN)
