Drama as NFF withholds Eagles’ provisional list

The battle of supremacy between the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and Super Eagles’ head coach, Stephen Keshi, deepened yesterday following the refusal of the country’s football authorities to make Super Eagles list public after Keshi appeared before its technical committee to defend the 37-man provisional list.

The technical committee meeting which had Keshi, NFF president, Alhaji Aminu Maigari, NFF technical committee chairman, Barr. Chris Green, Paul Bassey, Chief Emeka Inyama among others in attendance, lasted for about four hours.
While the sports writers, who hanged around the Glass House all day, approached Alhaji Maigari, he refused to comment on the list, insisting that Keshi would be the one to release the names.

A drama ensued when Keshi emerged from the conference room where the meeting held and declared that he submitted a 37-man list but was left for any of the NFF officials to make it public.

Minutes later, a member of NFF technical committee Paul Bassey, who was supposed to announce the content of the list showed up but declared that the country’s football body had decided to withhold the long expected list till next week to enable them scrutinize it properly.
According to him, “We have to shelve the release of the list to enable us carry out more consultation. We are not in a hurry to make it public. We discussed other World Cup arrangement. We will make some inquiries to know the state of players to know who is injured or not.
