Council of Ulama of Nigeria has called on the federal government to immediately declare a state of emergency in Taraba state to check lingering crises in the state. National Secretary of the Council, Prof. Muhammad Sadiq Al-Kafawy, stated this while speaking to the media in Kaduna yesterday. He said the Taraba killings started 10 years ago and all efforts to curtail it had proved abortive, adding added that the killings which started in Wukari town “have now been extended to Mambila in Sardauna local government area of the where recently at least 1, 000 lives were reportedly lost, while property worth hundreds of millions of naira were destroyed.

” “When similar incident was recorded in Plateau state and the state government seems to be helpless, the federal government declared a state of emergency and today Plateau state is experiencing a relative peace. Similarly, in Southern Kaduna when all hopes seems to be lost on how to curtail the attacks and counterattacks a military base was set up there; and I and you know that Southern Kaduna is experiencing some peace,” he said. The Council also expressed dismay over the recent outcries by some Northern Christian Elders about a plot to Islamise the North. It said from their investigation, there is nothing like that and tasked the Christian elders to make available evidence of such plot instead of crying wolves where there was none.

The Council also commended Nigerians for yielding to the federal government’s call to return back to the farm, saying from all indications the country “is about to experience a bumper harvest that has not been experienced in the country for past 30 years.” “We on-behalf of the Ulama commended Prof. Yemi Osinbajo for being a loyal and trusted deputy to President Buhari, especially in the area of steering the affairs of the nation. We pray for more wisdom, knowledge and God’s guidance for him as he continued to discharge his responsibilities as Acting President.”
