Day lawmaker empowered indigent constituents

Recently, Hon. Rita Orji, a member of the House of Representatives, representing Ajeromi Ifelodun Federal Constituency of Lagos state, reached out to some indigent youth in her constituency through her empowerment scheme. TOPE MUSOWO reports

Twenty indigent youths whose destinies would have been mortgaged to servitude have been practically given a fresh breath of live when Hon. Rita Orji, a member of the Federal House of Representatives, representing Ajeromi Ifelodun Federal constituency doled out intervention package to them.

Th e said youngsters just successfully completed a three months training from the Meteorological Training Institute(MTI) Onitsha, as part of empowerment scheme bank rolled by the lawmaker. Hon.Rita recounted why she chose to empower the youths, stating that Ajeromi Ifelodun in time past was known as a breeding ground for hooligans, never do wells and indigent Nigerians, but stressed that she stood out as a shining example and would like to infl uence others in the federal constituency.

“I have seen that everywhere in Ajeromi prior to now you have hotels owned by big people here, which serve as haven for our girls turned to prostitutes, that some other misnomer informed my passion and desire for a change. “Th ese twenty youths are my start up sample of rebranding Ajeromi for real”.

She said. One of the benefi ciaries, Miss Bunmi Owodunni could not hide her gratitude as she spoke glowingly about the lawmaker, who she described as a God sent individual, whose passion to impact the youths knows no bounds. According to Bunmi, the training more like what you can get in any polytechnic or university, she noted that though she left school an art student but end up being introduced to electrical engineering and hopeful she and some of her colleagues will be able to mentor other youths having been equipped through the MTI training.

“I went for electrical engineering for heavy mobile, some others in broad scope Information and Communication Technology ICT, welding and fabrication. Honourable Rita really made us comfortable all through our stay, she also promised to help some of us secure employment, she has lots of programmes for the youths and we are glad about that, I urge every youths in Ajeromi to support her”.

She said. Th e legislator also fulfi lled another campaign promise when he donated a new18-seater bus to another group of youths in Ajeromi to take them off the streets. While presenting the bus to the youth, she said,’’I promised the youth of my constituency a bus ,I like to make promise and fulfi l it no matter how diffi cult it may seem, I want people to always hold me by my word, this is the bus I promised’’, Rita said. Th e youth who were grateful to their representative for a promise fulfi lled could not hide their joy as they used the opportunity to pledge their unalloyed loyalty to Hon. Rita
