Following a court order asking the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to vacate the residence of a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Senator-elect in Ogun state, Buruji Kashamu, the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Mahmud Mohammed, has been asked to intervene in the siege to the politician’s home.
Some operatives of the NDLEA had laid siege to the home of Kashamu for the past four days.
The federal government is planning to extradite Kashamu to the United States to face drug related charges.
In a petition to the CJN by the group, Nigeria United Against Impunity and Lawlessness said the siege to Kashamu’s house was illegal and should be seen by all well-meaning Nigerians as an aberration.

It said: “We hereby demand that you use your high office to restore our pride as a nation and return the prestige of our Constitution which has been raped by the NDLEA in its disregard of a valid court action and untoward denial of the constitutional rights of a law abiding citizens of the Federal republic of Nigeria.

“That the arrest of Buruji Kashamu is illegal and should be seen by all well meaning Nigerians with the interest of the nation at heart as an aberration of the nation’s sovereignty and independence”, the group said in the petition.
The group further advised the NDLEA to cease every form of harassment and intimidation of Kashamu and his property pending further court action.”
