Corrupt oil well elite are behind Nigeria’s backwardness and disunity, Kaduna based Islamic scholar, Sheik Ahmad Gumi said yesterday.
Gumi said until Nigerians stand up and elect God-fearing leaders, the country would continue to suffer mal-administration and plunder into deep national crises.
Gumi who spoke during a phone in-programme of Liberty Radio monitored in Kaduna added that Nigerians must demand for credible electoral processes which he argued is the panacea for responsible leadership.
He said: “They will never allow sanity and rule of law because of their economic and political interests; they are those corrupt oil well elite. They are those big military generals who have their own interests and placed them above collective development and survival of Nigeria.
“They are also part of the problem in thwarting purposeful development, if you love General A, there are those that are for General B and others General C. And they will continue to cause division among the poor Nigerians so that there will be no unity.”
Gumi, who advocate for the emergence of new set of leaders, added: “What we need now is new set of leaders, those who don’t know the sweetness of oil well; it is such new leaders that will serve as catalysts of change, integration, development and survival of the country. They will be those that should have new positive orientation and not what we are seen today where people are worshipping money and materialism.”
Similarly, the scholar in a terse statement also said despite deplorable state of social and physical insecurity the nation is facing, the nation would see light at the end of the tunnel, stressing: “This light is that no condition is permanent. “Surely with difficulty is ease. Surely with difficulty is another ease. By God’s grace, 2015 is the end of the tunnel.
“We therefore call on all peace loving Nigerians to come together and support each other so that we elect good and responsible leaders within the confines of human ability. May Allah be our guide and protector? ”
