As the Sallah draws closer ram sellers in Zaria, Kaduna state, have expressed concern over low patronage barely few days to Eid-el-Kabir.
Investigation conducted by our correspondent showed that many ram selling points were chocked-up with rams of different sizes following the non patronage.
Speaking with Blueprint in Zaria, yesterday, Alhaji Abdulmuminu Alhassan, the Sarkin-Tirken Sarkin Zazzau, said the market had never experienced such a bleak market being witnessed now.
Alhassan attributed the low patronage to lack of salaries by some segment of workers in the state as one of the problems militating against the lack of market.
On categories of ram in the market, Sarkin-Turke, said the prices ranged from N15, 000 to N90, 000.
A ram dealer, Malam Musa maishanu described insecurity bedeviling Northern Nigeria as “one of the factors responsible for their problem.”
He said: “The present insurgency had now become a threat not only to ram sellers but to entirely all business activities in Northern Nigeria. Another factor is, before politicians used to buy ram in large numbers and donate to people but this year the case is different.
“The ram that went for between N100, 000 and N120, 000 now sells at between N70, 000 and N80, 000.”
Another ram seller, Malam Mahmud Barwa, said the market had come to a standstill, saying, “Even in some places like; Maigatari, Sheme, Me’adu’a and Jibiya where we used to buy the ram the market is not moving as expected.”
