Buhari’s visit shuts down kaduna; motorists, pedestrians stranded

Hundreds of man hour were lost on Tuesday in Kaduna as motorists and passengers were locked up in traffic gridlock for many hours, following the visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to Kaduna.

Pedestrians had to trek long distances for hours to reach their destination as President Buhari paid a visit to Kaduna to attend the 2019 Chief of Army Staff Annual Conference at the Trade Fair Complex along Kaduna – Zaria road, and commission the upgraded 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital, Kaduna.

The gridlock started as early as 8:30am in the morning with motorists plying the Kaduna Zaria highway, the Kaduna – Mando road feeling the initial brunt as they had to park on the road to allow the August visitor have a freeway. 

The motorists plying the Kaduna main thoroughfare, the Kawo – Isa Kaita – Ahmadu Bello way dual carriageway leading to Sokoto road up to the Kaduna Polytechnic road leading to Tudun Wada were also affected as they were held-up for many hours without any option as their vehicles were locked bumper to bumper. 

The road construction taking place in parts of the metropolis also added to the challenge as hitherto alternative routes were unavailable. 
Passengers had to drop from the commercial buses and keke napep to trek home, and those going for their businesses, parents going to pick their children from school, commercial vehicle operators along the routes all faced the gridlock.
