Brighton cage Liverpool in tense Premier League action

Jurgen Klopp’s side were pegged back on the south coast as Lewis Dunk’s equaliser secured a 2-2 draw for the Seagulls

Liverpool dropped points for the second successive Premier League match as Brighton held them to a 2-2 draw on the south coast.

Having slipped to defeat at Tottenham last time out in the league, this was a further blow to the Reds’ early title hopes.

Brighton took the lead after 20 minutes, as a poor pass from Virgil van Dijk led to Alexis Mac Allister being dispossessed by Simon Adingra, who in turn slid a long-range strike past the floundering Alisson Becker.

The Reds went in ahead at the break, however, as Mohamed Salah netted twice shortly before half-time.

He first curled an effort into the bottom corner after Darwin Nunez’s pass was expertly dummied by Harvey Elliott, while his second came from the penalty spot following a foul on Dominik Szoboszlai.

Jurgen Klopp’s side should have stretched their lead when substitute Ryan Gravenberch hit the crossbar from close range, and they were made to pay with just over 10 minutes left when Lewis Dunk diverted a low free-kick past Alisson.
