Breaking: Senate resumes plenary, screens CBN acting governor, others

The Senate has resumed plenary after its six weeks annual vacation.

Senate president, Godswill Akpabio, on Tuesday led other members of the apex lawmaking body into the chamber.

In his welcome address, the senate president insisted that the progress the country requires at the moment could only be achieved in a state of unity.

Akpabio said: “I welcome you from vacation and I sue for the spirit of cooperation and unity among us as it is through such discussion that we will achieve the best outcomes for all Nigerians.

“Be reminded that though our opinions may differ our common purpose is about the welfare of our constituents. In the coming days and weeks, we will address pressing issues, debating, legislating, and striving to forge common grounds and move our nation forward…”

The Senate thereafter dissolved into an executive session for further deliberation.

The senate will as well carry out the screening and confirmation of Olayemi Cardoso for appointment as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and others as deputy governors.

The CBN’s deputy governor designates include Emem Nnana Usoro, Muhammad Sani Abdullahi Dattijo, Philip Ikeazor, and Bala M. Bello.
