Bomb scare: Katsina police arrest 49-yr-old Nigerien

The Katsina Police command has arrested a 49 year-old Lawal Suleiman, a Nigerien national for causing sparks and explosion in a mosque at Yartabki village in Funtua local government of the state.
The state commissioner of police, Alhaji Usman Abdullahi revealed this on yesterday in katsina at a press briefing, saying the suspect caused the explosion in the early hours of Wednesday Nov 25th at Yartabki village.

According to him the suspect entered the Mosque through the window at about 4.00am and caused the explosion.
Abdullahi said that the explosion was not caused by a bomb as some people were claiming, adding that the suspect had confessed that he attempted to charge his GSM handset in the mosque when the spark occurred.
He further revealed that the explosion had injured the suspect on one of his legs and he jumped out of the mosque through the window where he attempted to escape.

“The suspect claimed to hail from Kurtiki village in Magarya local government in Niger Republic.
“The police detectives had recovered one Tiger battery, some substance, two handsets and N25 from the scene of the explosion”
“The Bomb disposal experts are currently making analysis of the substance to confirm whether it is an item for IED’s” he said.
In his response, the Katsina state commissioner for information, Alhaji Hamza Mohammed Burodo called on journalists to always confirm the authenticity of all information before publication.
Burodo also appealed to practising journalists in the state to contribute in maintaining peace in the state generally.
