Benue state governor, Dr Samuel Ortom has  described the late Catholic Bishop of Katsina Ala Diocese, Most Rev. Peter Adoboh as a pillar of peace.

Bishop Peter Adoboh who suffered a protracted illness died on 20th February, 2020.

In his funeral oration, Wednesday, Samuel Ortom, described late Bishop  Adoboh as one of the pillars of peace and security in Benue state.

Governor Ortom said the Bishop, apart from being a true servant of God, was also instrumental to the amnesty programme of his administration in 2016.

He stated that the late Bishop Adoboh went to the trenches to negotiate peace with youths who had gone to the wild and were terrorising residents, adding that many arms and ammunitions were recovered through the process.

“We appreciate our father in the Lord, late Bishop Adoboh, who did not just serve the state as a man of God, but was indeed a pillar,  supporting government to provide security for lives and property,” Governor Ortom stated.

The governor acknowledged the contributions of the Catholic Bishops of Nigeria for always speaking against leadership failure in the country, saying they should continue to admonish and speak truth to leaders at all levels.

Earlier, President Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, Most Reverend Bishop Augustine Obiora in a funeral oration, prayed God to grant their departed colleague eternal rest in heaven and the bereaved the fortitude to bear the loss.

While noting that his presence and contributions would greatly be missed during meetings, Bishop Obiora urged politicians to truly fight corruption in the country for the development of the society.

In a homily, Archbishop Emeritus of Abuja Archdiocese, His Eminence, John Cardinal Onayekan, described the late Bishop as a committed servant of God who served with passion and prayed God to grant his soul eternal rest.
