Former England international David Beckham is pleased with the look of the Three Lions squad heading to the World Cup, and believes his country could pull off a few surprises in Brazil.
The former Manchester United, Real Madrid and PSG player said the Premier League has prepared the English players well for the global showpiece.
The 39-year-old has backed the mix of youth and experience in the English set-up, and believes the team can measure up against the world heavyweights.
“You’ve got a captain like Stevie G (Gerrard) that has had one of the best seasons probably for him and that Liverpool have had for quite a while, so you’ve got players like that who are well respected by the younger players and who the younger players will want to play for, so I think that we can cause a few upsets, a few surprises,” he said.
England are in a tough group alongside Italy, Uruguay and Costa Rica, yet Beckham feels England has what it takes to progress to the latter stages of the tournament.
