Bayern target Arsenal defender

Bayern Munich are reportedly ‘pushing hard’ to sign Takehiro Tomiyasu as Harry Kane and Co seek versatility in defence.

According to Sky Germany, the Bavarians remain adamant about getting Tomiyasu in the upcoming January transfer window after pursuing him extensively last summer. The 25-year-old Japanese star has caught Bayern’s attention with his ability to play as a centre-back, right-back, and left-back when required and Thomas Tuchel wanted him at Allianz Arena as soon as possible.

However, the report mentions that Arsenal do not want to part ways with the player and despite Bayern’s interest, the Gunners are determined to retain Tomiyasu. The Bundesliga side have already been informed of Arsenal’s intention to keep Tomiyasu throughout the season but Bayern will likely monitor his situation closely at the Emirates and might revisit the possibility of signing him in the Summer 2024 transfer market.

Tomiyasu, who began his career with Avispa Fukuoka, gained recognition during a breakout season with Belgian side Sint-Truiden in 2018. His impressive performances earned him a move to Serie A club Bologna, where he played for two seasons before joining Arsenal for a reported £17 million fee.

Tomiyasu was struggling to nail down a starting spot in Arsenal at the beginning of the 2023-24 season. However, he has played the full 90 minutes in the last two Premier League matches against Newcastle and Burnley and will hope to keep his place during Arsenal’s trip to Gtech Stadium on Saturday to take on Brentford.
