Bauchi launches FG’s procurement guidelines on family planning commodities

Bauchi state government has launched the National Guidelines for the State Funded Procurement of Family Planning Commodities in a move to strengthen actions against maternal and newborn mortality across the state.

Inaugurating the programme at Government House Bauchi, Governor Bala Mohammed observed that the move was aimed at domesticating the global policy on family planning system through making the commodities available in all the health care facilities in the state.

He commended the state Ministry of Health and United Nations Population Fund for coming up with the initiative, saying that the the development is an opportunity for state to address the alarming rate of maternal and newborn mortality.

The governor who was represented by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Abubakar Sulaiman stressed the need for effective synergy with Development Partners in universal health coverage and readiness to sustain adequate budgetory provision in health care sector.

He expressed hope that if properly implemented, the policy document would go along way in improving the quality of lives of the citizens.

In their separate remarks, the representative of United Nations Population Fund Mrs Loide Okomgo and the Executive Chairman of the State Primary Health Care Development Agency Dr. Rilwanu Muhammad advocated for timely release of fund towards achieving the desired objectives.

They however called for increased awareness on the importance of birth spacing in both urban and rural areas to guarantee the well being of people.
