Wife of late Nigeria’s former President, Dr Namdi Aikiwe, Prof. Uche, has called on the federal government to restructure the country’s educational system.
She stressed that education remained vital towards the actualisation of sustainable development and growth which the nation desired.
Prof. Azikiwe, who is the acting President of the Association of Sociologists of Education of Nigeria (ASEN), spoke at 10th Annual National Conference and Anniversary of the Association, held at the University of Ilorin.
Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara state, in his message to the conference, urged Nigerians to support the efforts of the President Buhari-led federal government in finding solutions to the challenges facing the country.
Represented by the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Engr. Musa Yeketi, the governor noted that Nigerians must discard the notion that the government alone was responsible for resolving all challenges facing the country.
“In our present circumstances, none of us can afford to assume that somebody else will solve our problems; each of us must take his or her own share of responsibility, because universal responsibility is the key to human survival,” he said.
