AUATON suspends general secretary over alleged misconduct

The Amalgamated Union of App-Based Transporters of Nigeria (AUATON) has suspended its General Secretary, Comrade Ayoade Ibrahim, over alleged misconduct and disregard for the official responsibilities of the association. 

The Chairman of the Media, Publicity, and Technical Committee of the association, Comrade Jossy Adaraniwon, in a statement he issued in Abuja on Monday, said the decision to suspend the embattled scribe of the association was taken at a ‘crucial meeting’ held on 23 March.

According to him, the National Auditor, Comrade Fred Aleburu moved the motion for Ibrahim’s suspension and was seconded by the national Ex-officio, Joseph Adaraniwon, and while two-thirds (2/3) of members present and eligible to vote also seconded the motion. 

“The central working committee of the Amalgamated Union of App-Based Transporters of Nigeria (AUATON) in a crucial meeting held on 23 March 2024 suspended the general secretary, Ayoade Ibrahim in a motion that read a series of weighty offenses moved by comrade Fred Aleburu, the national auditor and seconded by Joseph Adaraniwon the national Exofficio, and supported by two-thirds (2/3) of members present and eligible to vote while five other were indifference on the motion.

“The petition and motion read, Dear Comrade President and members of Central Working Committee, the petition against ‘the habitual violation and contravention of the  constitution, gross misconduct and breach of administrative procedures by Comrade Ayoade Ibrahim, the general secretary.

“The union on this date has suspended the pioneer General Secretary of the union until further investigations. The petition submitted by the National Auditor of the union has been given attention, and upon a 2/3 vote by the Central Working Committee of the union has suspended the General Secretary pending further investigation, and recommendation to the National Executive Council which was recently inaugurated for expulsion, ” he said.
