ABU faculties partner on animal food security

Faculty of Agriculture and National Animal Production Research Institute (NAPRI), Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria are to go into Partnership to boost animal food security in the Country.

Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Abdullahi Mustapha, said this during a professorial inaugural lecture entitled “The Search for Dairy Goat: The Northern Guinea Savannah Experience” by Animal Breeder, Professor Gerald Nwachi Akpan, held at the University’s Assembly Hall on Thursday.
“The collaboration between the parties assist in production of milk and meat from the species of the goat, especially the Sokoto Red Goat (SRG),” he said.

Professor Mustapha, represented by Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Professor Amos Adamu, added that the collaboration would pave the way for inter-breeding the species with Savanna Brown, in order to fight hunger, through animal food security.
He re-assured members of the university community of his administration’s continued assistance in research, which he described as the mandate of the university.
