Abaji connects rural communities to national grid

GridThe present administration of Abaji area council has connected a number of rural communities to the national electric grid, the chairman, Hon. Yahaya Garba Gawu, has said.
Speaking at the ceremony marking his one year in office yesterday, Gawu said rural communities like Pelele Gigbe, Tungan Usman and Agwara were connected to the grid to give his people a sense of belonging in view of the council’s distance from the city centre.

He said eight other communities would be connected soon as transformers, service wires, aluminum conductors and electric poles were ready.
Stating other feats his administration had achieved in his one year in office, Gawu said many rural roads were constructed and asphalted to ease movement of people and goods, adding that the administration had settled N50 million out of the liability it “inherited from road projects.”
In terms of education, Gawu said apart from boosting girl-child education and improving school infrastructure, N9 million was given to “deserving students of higher institutions across the 10 political wards in the council.”

In his address, the former Chairman of council, Hon. Yahaya Mohammed, commended the chairman for his developmental strides, saying that “he has brought about continuity in government in the council.”
He, however, urged him to “put his ears on the ground towards doing more for the people.”

Also commending the chairman, the Ona of Abaji, Alhaji Adamu Yunusa, said “Abaji has been peaceful thanks to the unifying activities of the Chairman in the last one year.”
The Ona, however, urged him to do more in terms of youth employment in order to upkeep the peace he has worked a lot to earn.
