2023: Law students call for calm, congratulate president-elect

The national president of the Law Students’ Association of Nigeria (LAWSANl) Sen. Yasir Abubakar, GCOL and the vice-president Miss. Agogo Florence, OOL, have urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to look into the grievances of the opposition.

According to the Association, the call became necessary following complaints by opposition political parties in the conduct of this year’s presidential and National Assembly elections which held Saturday across the country.

This was contained in a press statement issued Wednesday in Abuja by the Association.

While commending INEC “for the good job so far,” the Association noted that “for an election to be adjudged free, fair and credible, the electorates who are the foundation of the whole process must be heard and cleared of all their grievances; and also the various political parties who participated in the election.”

“We commend INEC for the good job it has done so far; we are optimistic and confident in the electoral body’s ability to ensure that the process is not only seen, but adjudged to be free, fair and credible as it has already set in motion a transparent narrative.”

The Association appealed to the “candidates, their respective parties and the citizens to remain calm in line with the Peace Accord signed by the political parties and their candidates, while INEC after a thorough process has announced the APC presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as the president-elect.

“We enjoin all political parties, stakeholders, youths and women groups to join hands with the president-elect to steer the ship of the state and move Nigeria forward to the promised land, where equity, justice, fairness and freedom reign supreme.

“The peace and progress of Nigeria remains the ultimate goal and we must all collectively come together to foster and uphold that peace, progress, unity and stability for the growth of the nation,’ the statement read in part.
