2020: Obi, Secondus calls for pragmatic solution to insecurity

The Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the February 23, 2019 general election and former governor of Anambra state, Peter Obi, has challenged the federal government to profer pragmatic solution to insecurity in Nigeria as in 2020.

Obi in a statement he made available to journalists, Tuesday lamented that Nigeria was not where she should be and blames it on failure of leadership.

He also urged Nigerians to use the New Year as a springboard to work towards recovering and refocusing this country to find its bearing in the comity of nations.

The statement in part reads:  “The former Governor of Anambra state said that God has destined us to be great people and a great nation but through our leadership failings over the years we are where we shouldn’t be.

“We must all therefore tell ourselves the truth that this country is dying gradually and all hands must be on deck in the new year to redirect the ship of state away from the dike that it’s headed.

“Obi noted in a statement from his media office that the prevailing hardship in the country including the needless bloodletting across the country are all indexes of failure of governance and urged the political leaders to refocus their economic policies for growth and development especially in education and job creation through small and medium-sized enterprises, SMEs.

“Government should also in the new year strive to seek a pragmatic solution to the increasing security challenges in the country.

Similarly, the national chairman of the PDP ,Prince Uche Secondus, charged Nigerians to brace up for what he termed a “dictatorial regime” in the New Year.

Prince Secondus claimed that “with the Judiciary caged, the legislature ready and willing to rubber-stamp whatever comes from the Executive, Media and the opposition intimidated, Nigerians should await the fang of a dictator wearing the apparel of a democrat.

In a statement issued by his media adviser, Ike Aboyi, Secondus said “with the huge loan demands passing through the National Assembly without scrutiny coupled with the accompanying high taxation bills from the executive, 2020 portends further hard times for Nigerians.

The statement in part reads ” 2020 is going to be tough with the high level of corruption already rated by experts to be worse under this administration as they continue to look away to reported cases of fraud involving high profile members of the regime.

“Added to this is the ineptitude that has engulfed the oil sector and various agencies of government as square pegs are put in round holes at the expense of merits.

“Reviewing the activities of the past twelve months in the country, Prince Secondus lamented that 2019 remains the worst year for democracy in our land.

He also urged Nigerians “to refuse to be deterred by the impunity and provocative attitude of the ruling APC whose agenda is to run a despotic regime disregarding the rule of law and tenets of democracy.
