2 security men arraigned over theft of iron rods

The police Tuesday arraigned two security men, David Asham, 44, and Umar Abdullahi, 34, at a Life Camp Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing iron rods valued at N400, 000.

The defendants, both security men at Conserve Company, Idu Life Camp, Abuja, are standing trial on two-count charge of theft and negligence.

The Police Prosecutor, ASP Peter Ejike of FCT command, said one Azande Solomon of Conserve Company, Idu Life Camp, Abuja, reported the matter at Life Camp Police Station on March 6.

Ejike told the court that on March 5, the defendants negligently abandoned 78 iron rods of 16mm kept under their custody, and were allegedly stolen by yet to be identified persons.

The prosecutor said during police investigation, the defendants could not give any explanation for their actions.

He said the offences contravene Sections 287 and 196 of the Penal Code Law.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Magistrate Sharon Tanko, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N500,000 and two sureties each in like sum. (NAN)
