The All Progressives Congress’s “special meeting” held at midnight on Wednesday to approve zoning formula and the modalities for distribution of principal political offices has again ended at deadlock.

Blueprint gathered that during the meeting, which ended in the wee hours of yesterday, the leaders could not completely agree on the zoning of positions being canvassed for.

The extraordinary meeting, which was held at the Rivers state Governors’ Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja, was attended the President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, his running mate Prof. Yomi Osinbajo, former vice president Atiku Abubakar, former Lagos governor and APC leader, Bola Tinubu, national chairman, Chief John Oyegun, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, and publisher of Leadership newspaper, Mr Sam Nda-Isaiah.

Our correspondent learnt that the party had agreed in principle on how to share the various office positions but, following the stalemate, APC leaders shelved further deliberation on the zoning formula to allow for more consultations.
It was also gathered that apart for the key principal National Assembly seats of Senate President and House of Representatives Speaker, other positions  were less contentious.
When contacted over the  outcome of the meeting, the National Publicity Secretary of APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, declined to give details of decisions reached.

He said the meeting was not meant for public consumption and that he was not bound to disclose its outcome.
According to him, the party leaders merely met to discuss issues relating to preparations for transition to new government and the things required for the formation of new administration.
“Our meeting was merely a party affair, not for public or media consumption, and we discussed plans for the transition to new government, ” he said.
