Wife of the first Nigerian President, Prof. (Mrs.) Uche Azikiwe, has said that the only way myriad of conflicts ravaging the could be resolved is for the present administration to beam its searchlight on the development of rural communities in the country,
Uche Azikiwe, who also is the national president of Association of Sociologist of Education of Nigeria (ASEN), made this assertion at the Nasarawa State University, Keffi during the 9th annual conference of the association.
She suggested that most citizens do not want luxury living posh cars, flamboyant buildings, but rather good roads, education, electricity, good means of transportation, among other things so that they could be comfortable in the rural areas.
She said if the present crop of leaders, governors, council chairmen, ministers, and the presidency should focus on the development of the rural areas, insurgency, militancy, kidnapping, especially Boko Haram, would fizzle out in the country.
Uche Azikiwe said the founding fathers of the country such as the late Sardauna of Sokoto, her husband Rt.Hon. Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, among other, made sacrifices to “keep Nigeria one.
“They played significant roles in the building of Nigeria, from the pre and post colonial Nigeria and the factor that kept Nigeria one today, was the factor that many people accused her husband of, that is the factor of compromise. “Compromising your interest, ambition, when you know that one’s interest could go against the unity of Nigeria, for instance, many people thought that from the struggle of her husband at independence, he might be the prime minister, but when he discovered that becoming the prime minister could create chaos and discord then, he opted for a ceremonial president of Nigeria.”
