Zamfara retired workers seek divine intervention over entitlements

Hundreds of retired civil servants in Zamfara state yesterday converged at the Gusau Eid ground for a special prayer seeking divine intervention over non- payment of their entitlements.
Their leader, Malam Aminu Marafa Gusau, said the action was informed by the government’s failure to pay them their retirement benefits two years after retirement.

Gusau said after series of contacts to the state pension board and other appropriate office, nothing had been done.
“We are left with no option than to go spiritual and sought for the divine intervention as majority of us have lost their integrity as a result of poverty and other social problems,” he said.

According to him, majority of them cannot even stay with their wives and children due to the hardship they have been subjected to.
He used the opportunity to appeal to the state government to look into matter and hasten the payment of the entitlements.
Some of them that spoke to newsmen said most of them reside in rented apartments and had been given quit notice as they could not pay their annual rents.
