Zamfara partners with DFID on GEM 3

The Zamfara state government is collaborating with a DFID funded organization, Growth Employment in States, (GEMS 3) to improve its internal Revenue Generation (IRG).
Chairman state committee on tax harmonisation, Alhaji Bello Dankande Gamji, who state this during an introductory visit to Talata Mafara and Shinkafi local government areas said the idea was to develop a mechanism for accountability and prudent management of the internally generated revenue.

According to him, four local government areas of Gusau, Gummi, Shinkafi and Talata Mafara have been selected for the commencement of the project.
Gamji who is also ALGON chairman, appealed for total support and cooperation from the businessmen and women to achieve the mission.    In their respective speeches, council chairmen of Shinkafi and Talata Mafara, Alhaji Usman Ajiya and Alhaji Maiyara Garbadu reiterated their commitment to support the programme.
According to them, attempt to revitalise the internal revenue generation was so critical to the councils.

Shedding more light on the programme, GEMS 33 tax consultant, Mr. Lateef Adegbeti said under the programme revenue collectors at all levels would be giving training on modern techniques of revenue generation.
He said GEMS 3, would only supports the state to improve its revenue base but not to be involved in the collection of revenue. Participants at the meeting who were mostly officials of various trades expressed determination to give due support to the programme.
