Yobe gov dialogues with aggrieved tricycle owners


Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state has called on National Commercial
Tricycle and Motor Cycle Owners and Riders Association popularly known as NAPEP, Yobe state chapter, to respect law by registering their tricycles to checkmate bad eggs among them.

Buni made the call on Monday at a dialogue meeting with members of the association at government house, Damaturu.

He said, “Yobe state had suffered a lot in terms of insecurity which led to the ban of motorcycle. Therefore you should not allow bad eggs to intrude and cause another ban, I urge you to register and get your number plates.”

The governor assured the association of providing them with conducive
atmosphere to do their business activities.

Speaking earlier, the State Chairman of the association, Umaru Barau,
apologised to the government for the incident that led to the clash between the security agents and members of the association last Wednesday.

Barau solicited for the increase of operation time for the tricycle owners beyond 6pm daily as well as loan to its members, saying its membership is beyond 5,000 in Damaturu local government only.

Governor Buni, granted immediate approval of 18 seater bus and an office complex for the association to facilitate its activities.

The meeting was attended by representatives of Army, Police, Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Department of State Security Services, among others.
