Yobe: Girls-led movement advocates for right to education, inclusion

The Girls-led movement building (GLMB) has tasked authorities concerned in Yobe state for girls right to education and seek children inclusion in decision making.

The group stated this on Friday during a press conference organised by Save the Children International (SCI) as part of the activity making the international day of the girl child in Damaturu.

Speaking at the programme, SCI advocacy/campaign policy manager Murjanatu Kabi said the girls -led movement building is a movement for the girls who come together in order to discuss issues that affect girls and come up with solutions.

Kabir stated that they have invited members of the state government as well as stakeholders for them to hear the issues.

“The girls have their presentations and I’m very sure the stakeholders had about all they have mentioned and this are issues of concern and we believes the state government is going to do a lots with regards to the issues around promoting girls right,” he said.

In his remarks, the state Commissioner of home affairs information and culture, Alhaji Abdullah Bego, said the state government places utmost priority on education especially the girl child.

Represented by the Director information Ali Musa Yawale, Bego stated that, “due to the importance the state government attach on the child education, girls day senior secondary schools were established across the state for the girls to further thier education”.

In their separate speeches at the event, Girls advocated for equal rights to education, support to fight against sexual abuse, early marriage, gender-based violence and sought for children inclusion in decision making respectively.
