Yobe cargo airport ready by Dec – Gaidam

Governor Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe state has said he is optimistic that the multi-billion naira International Cargo Airport contract awarded on 13th September, 2017 will be completed by December, 2018. The governor disclosed this yesterday while inspecting the site of the project at Kalallawa, a distance of 22 kilometers away from the state capital. “Last time when we came here in January 2018, we promised to come back in February but that could not be possible. With the speed and quality of work on ground, I am very optimistic that the project would be completed by December, 2018. “I want to assure the contractor that, money has been kept in the airport project account waiting for payment at any time. I wish to commend the Commissioner, his engineers and the contractor for a job well done,” the governor said.
Earlier, welcoming the governor at the site, the Commissioner of Works, Transport and Energy, Lawan Ali Shettima said, the project was awarded to be completed in fifteen months. “Your Excellency, when you visited the site in January this year the grand total of percentage of work achieved stood at 18.3 per cent”. As at today, 15th of May, 2018, the contractor has constructed 46.5 per cent after payment of over half of the total cost.”
