World Cycling C’ship: Team Nigeria intensify preparation for Scotland trip

Close to 8 Cyclists from Cycling Federation of Nigeria are currently undergoing intensive training camp in Abuja ahead of the 2023 UCI world Cycling Championship in Scotland come August 3rd 2023.

The 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships will be the inaugural edition of the UCI Cycling World Championships organized by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), which will take place between August 3rd to 13th of August 2023 in Glasgow and across the Scotland.

As from now, UCI Cycling World Championships will be held every four years in the year preceding the Olympic Games, with aim of bringing together various disciplines of cycling, for them to be held as part of one event.

However, Nigeria Cyclists will compete with more than 8,000 participants across the world.

Speaking ahead of the event, on Tuesday, in Abuja, President of Cycling Federation of Nigeria, Giandomenico Massari expressed the team’s readiness, despite identifying the cost of travelling, accommodation and feeding as challenges.

“We are ready for the championship, the only challenge we have is finance, in Nigeria we have very large number of talents both male and female, that is why we are working hard at federation level to ensure the best come out from Nigeria Cyclists.

“Team Nigeria is going to take part in Road Senior Female Elite, Road Junior female elite, Track Female Elite, Para-Cycling, amongst others.

“I can assure Nigerians, that is why we are more determined to have a successful outing in Glasgow.”

On his own, the CFN Technical Director, Mohammed Bashir expressed that, “the preparation is on top gear and the team will leave no stone unturned to ensure good outing come August in Glasgow.

We are in camp for weeks, and we are intensifying our preparation towards a successful outing.”

He sought for the support of the government to ensure game of cycling grow more in Nigeria.
