Women in leadership open free library in Jos

Parents, particularly women should to imbibe reading culture for better development of their children’s education, director of publicity, Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), Malam Sani Mudi, has said.

Malam Mudi, who is also an elder in Jos community, made the call while unveiling a modern library and counseling center at the heart of Jos. The library was provided by the Women in Leadership Initiative in Africa (WiLIAfrica).

He said: “The opening of a free library in the community is an ample opportunity for parents, most particularly women, to imbibe reading culture aimed at encouraging their children to further imbibe the same and advance their learning process.”

Malam Mudi admonished members of the community to make judicious utilisation of the facility and commended the organisation for the initiative. He prayed to Allah, to keep opening the doors of accessing funds.

Chairperson of the group, Hajiya Maryam Baba Muhammad, said as a nonprofit organisation with the key vision to empower, emancipate and advocate for women, girl child and the youth, they will continue to strive towards attaining a knowledgeable, educated and enlightened society.

“The library has a collection of books from various disciplines for both adults and children and can be accessible by every individual freely.

“This is aimed at providing a hub where knowledge can be enhanced, research be undertaken and also a place where attitudinal change can be championed from that of chaos and illiteracy to that of peaceful coexistence, diversity and enlightenment,” she said.
