Willian ignores Barcelona, roots for fresh deal at Chelsea

Barcelona-target Willian is hoping to sign a new long-term deal at Chelsea.

The Catalans have been linked with a January move for the Brazil winger, having missed out in the summer.

But Willian has now become an important part of the plans of new Stamford Bridge boss Frank Lampard and is happy to commit his future to the West Londoners.

The 31-year-old, who joined the Blues from Russian side FC Anzhi Makhachkala in 2013, would have been out of contract in the summer.

Barca chiefs, who had a £55m bid rejected in 2018, were also hoping to pounce then had they not wrapped up a cut-price deal in January.

Juventus were also chasing the South American.

But the attacker has spoken about signing a new contract.

He said: “I think I have a lot of wood to burn here in Europe. I have a market. I’m very happy here at Chelsea.

“Of course my contract is ending now, at the end of the season it’s over. But I’m happy at Chelsea and I plan to stay out here.”

The £30million signing has played 11 games so far this term, scoring 11 goals.

He has scored 29 Premier League goals in 144 starts.

Willian has also not ruled out a move back to Brazil with his old club Corinthians, but he will sign one more big contract in Europe before heading home.

He told Esporte Interativo: “Of course when you talk about Corinthians, the club that launched me, I have a great affection.

“But honestly, I don’t think about returning to Brazil.”
