We’ll ensure quick passage of NABRO bill – Reps

The House of Representatives has disclosed that it would ensure quick passage of National Assembly Budget and Research Office ( NABRO ) establishment bill before the end of 8th Assembly.
This will be the third time the bill will be re-presented for passage as it was first presented in the 6th Assembly.
The Chairman of House Committee on Legislative Budget and Research, Honourable Timothy Golu, while briefing newsmen said that the NABRO establishment bill is necessary to provide a strong and sound legislative structure to constructively engage the executive arm in the budget process and implementation.

According to him, “no doubt, the budget is the most important national document after the constitution and the most essential annual economic policy tool.
“This is because it provides a comprehensive statement of the Marion’s priorities and financial intent for a given year.
“Being the number one arm of government in a democracy, a strong, capable and virile legislature is necessary to perform the functions of lawmaking, representation and oversight.

“A change and assertive NASS needs a functional NABRO to increase the capacity of the National Assembly to help in fighting corruption and promoting the culture of the rule of law.”
