We won’t allow gender-based violence in Oyo – Makinde

Governor Seyi Makinde Monday said gender based violence will not be tolerated in Oyo state.

The governor made this known in Ibadan while leading campaign against sexual and Gender Based Violence (GBV) walk together with his wife , Mrs Tamunominini Makinde, representative of Commissioner of Police, the Commissioner for Special Duty, Alhaja Faosat Sanni, Commissioner for Youth and Sport, Wasilat Adegoke, and Commissioner for Women Affairs, Toyin Balogun among others.

Participants at the walk which started inside Agodi Government House were seen carrying placards having inscriptions like “Eve Voice Counts,” “Zero Tolerance to Genda Based Violence”, and “Oyo State Say no to Gender Based Violence,” among others.

Governor Makinde stated that the campaign was to draw attention of the people of the state to vulnerable groups in the state, and to demonstrate that GBV will not be tolerated in the state.

The governor warned that no one should capitalise on the prevalence of poverty to be engaging in indecent acts as government will at all times protect the vulnerable in the society.

Governor Makinde lauded security agencies in the state for their roles in the fight against GBV, adding that the menace won’t stop if security agencies are not up and doing.

Addressing the gathering, wife of the governor, Mrs Tamunominini said the walk was to sensitise the public against sexual and GBV.
