The World Affirmative Action Awards (WAFAA), a gender equality based NGO, has awarded the Ondo state First Lady, Mrs. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, as one of its global ambassadors for championing the course of women in the country.

WAFAA’s Founding President, Dr. Hephzibah Suobo, presented the award to Mrs Akeredolu when she led a delegation on a courtesy visit to her, at the Ondo state Government Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja.

Suobo lauded the commitment of the first lady towards eradicating breast cancer through her NGO, the Breast Cancer Association of Nigeria (BRECAN), stressing the importance of recognising the contributions of women to national development.

She, however, lamented the existing wide gap in the access to equal opportunities between males and females, noting that the national gender data report shows Nigeria has a lot of women yet, no visibility when it comes to equal access to social-economic life.

“Women have been treated unfairly in this country even when they have proven their capacity in many ways,” he said.
