Volume of transactions at NSE increases by 129.6%

Volume of activities on the floor of Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) yesterday increased by 129.64 per cent. The NSE trading result showed volume of transactions rose by 407.540 million as investors bought 711.262 million shares worth N11.928 billion in 4676 deals against 309.722 million shares valued at N3.715 billion in 5386 deals.
The NSE market Indicators on the other hand closed in negative trend, shedding 0.13 per cent. The market capitalisation of listed equities fell by N16 billion to N11.658 trillion from N11.674 trillion recorded the previous day. Also the NSE All Share Index dropped by 44.94 basis points to 34310.37 from 34355.31 traded on Wednesday.

A breakdown of the investment revealed that Total Nigeria Plc recorded the highest gain for the day, growing by N15 to close at N174.00, Guinness Nigeria Pl followed with a gain of N7.28 kobo to close at N163.00, Presco Plc increased by N3.20 kobo to close at N35.20 kobo, Seplat Petroleum Development went up by N3.00 to close at N338.00 while Flour Mill Nigeria Plc grew by N1.35 kobo to close at N36.20 kobo.

Conversely, Nestle Nigeria Plc yesterday led losers chart, shedding N10.00 to close at N850.00, Forte Oil trailed with N9.00 to close at N176.00, while Mobil Oil Plc fell by N2.76 kobo to close at N146.80 kobo. Other companies that recorded price depreciation were Nigerian Breweries and Zenith International Bank which decline by N1.90 kobo and N0.56 kobo respectively to N150.10 kobo and N21.44 kobo.

Financial Service Sector led activities in volume terms, trading 654.952 million shares worth N4.205 billion in 2610 deals. Banking subsector was the most active accounting for 447.416 million shares worth N3.299 billion in 1687 deals.
United Bank for Africa (UBA) of the banking subsector recorded highest volume of activities during the day, exchanging 287.629 million shares worth N1.525 billion in 218 deals, Access Bank exchanged 31.754 million shares valued at N198.096 million in 225 deals while Diamond Bank sold a total of 31.535 million shares worth N140.250 million in 78 deals.

Insurance subsector followed in the sector with account of 105.124 million shares worth N62.409 million in 152 deals.  Wapic Insurance was the toast of investors with account of 96.326 million shares valued at N52.967 million in 28 deals.
FBNHoldings of the other financial Institutions traded 81.334 million shares cost N758.601 million in 497 deals.
