Victorious CHAN Eagles get paltry $600 for beating Benin Republic

Home-based Super Eagles have revealed that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) reneged on its promise of paying each members of the squad the sum of $2,000 should they qualified for the African Nations Championship, CHAN, slated for Kenya next year.

A member of the team who expressed his disappointment about the way they were treated disclosed that instead of paying them $2,000 which is about N700, 000, the NFF only paid N200, 000 which is equivalent of $600. A goal in each half, one by home –boy Rabiu Ali and the other by Kingsley Eduwo, steered Nigeria into the finals of the CHAN 2018 at the expense of the Squirrels of Benin Republic in Kano. The victory at the Sani Abacha Stadium in the commercial capital of northern Nigeria earned the Super

Eagles a 2-1 aggregate win, and dashed the Squirrels’ hope of reaching the finals of a championship reserved for only footballers who ply their trade in their native country’s domestic Leagues. ” We were told we will be paid N200,000 ( $600) not N700,000 ( $2,000) as earlier promised and agreed by the NFF. We can only grumble but we can’t do anything than accept it”, a player told Owngoalnigeria.com. ” They can’t treat the main Super Eagles like this, so this should inspire us to work hard and break into the main Super Eagles. The only painful thing is they didn’t consider us worthy enough to be informed ahead of time”. The 5th African Nations Championship will be hosted by Kenya, 11th January – 2nd February 2018.
