Vandi Maikyau: A born leader

Some individuals across the globe emerge as rallying point in their communities every other time. They become the centre or focus of attention, not because of their making, but because, the shine is on them. They attract loyalty, obedience, patronage, because as it is they relate with everyone.

Mr Vandi Maikyau is an erudite community leader. Since, he retired from public service a few years ago and settled in his community, Michika people have come to him for advice. The youth come to him for direction. If there is a hiccup, some accident, problem arising from conflict, he seems the right person to run to for solution. At other moments, he goes for condolences or during weddings or moments of joy, he is there in person participating actively or giving a helping hand. In short, he has become a focus of mobilizing, galvanizing and gingering everyone into action and unity. He has given gifts ranging from houses, to motor cars or shouldering marriages.

Maikyau is unique in the sense that he has empowered many especially the less privileged, so that their trade thrive. Recently he influenced the placement of many unemployed into some government agencies at local, state and federal levels. The group managing director of Maher Shall Hazba is into many things – farming, oil lifting, printing and selling and buying. If government wants to penetrate Michika or the Higgi-Kamwe as the dominant tribe or ethnic group, one of those to be approached is Maikyau. He is a patron of Kamwe Community Christian Forum.

His large heartedness has attracted friends and associates, who support him wholeheartedly. One of them is Mr. James Manager, another humble gentleman, but decisive in action. There is also Mr. Patrick Baba, a graduate of the former famous Waka Teachers’ Colleg, Biu, who is loyal all through to Maikyau.

We salute his charisma. We salute his courage at trying to bring unity in Kamwe land in Michika local government, Adamawa state. We admire and cherish his sensitization and enlightenment to bring about obedience for rule of law.
