Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, has called on the Muslims Ummah to insure their assets and property in line with the Sharia legal system, by embracing the Takaful Insurance policy.
Speaking at the launch of the Takaful Insurance in Kano yesterday, Sanusi said Takaful was the “greatest and formidable weapon available to every Muslim as enshrined in the Sharia legal system” which had provided the leeway for one to insure his or her legitimate earning to avoid losses.
He added that the operators and owners of the Insurance outfit must strive to ensure that nothing was left to chance in putting a foul-free system on ground.
While calling on the Kano state government to rise to the challenge of ensuring that assets belonging to the state government were Islamic ally insured, he also gave the assurance that the Kano Emirate Council would pick up the gauntlet to prove its mettle by embracing Takaful.
He stressed that Kano as a sprawling commercial nerve centre ought to have been a leading pace setter in Takaful Insurance.
In his remarks, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Jaiz Takaful Insurance, Alhaji Momoudu Musa Joof, said Takaful was a unique concept of Sharia compliant insurance and that the system was based on the concept of social solidarity, cooperation and mutual indemnification of losses of members.
On the benefits to be derived from investing in Takaful insurance, a renowned Islamic Scholar in Kano, Sheikh Nasir Adam, stressed the need for Muslims to embrace the concept.
He cited the example of China as one country that had embraced Takaful for centuries, adding that there was nowhere in the glorious Qur’an that patronising conventional insurance was prescribed legal.
