Tragedy yesterday struck on Sakponba Road in IkpobaOkha local government area of Edo state after an unmarked truck crushed nine persons, including a pregnant woman. A woman and her two kids also reportedly died in the crash which occurred at Okha Market around 6am.
Th e accident involved an unmarked articulated truck; otherwise known as tipper and a 10-seater commercial bus marked: BEN 435 ZN. Th e truck was said to be overtaking another vehicle when he suddenly crashed into the parked passenger bus from behind. Seven persons reportedly died on the spot, while two others lost their lives minutes later at the hospital where they were taken to for medical attention. Eyewitnesses said “the bus driver had parked by the roadside waiting for a passenger who had gone to look for N500 change when the accident occurred.” According to the witnesses, the truck driver who was unhurt in the accident, escaped from the scene immediately. Irked by the development, angry youths were said to have set the articulated truck on fi re. When contacted, the state Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr. Samuel Odukoya, confi rmed the crash, saying that nine persons lost their lives
